Whippets run past Wildcats

St Paul Basketball C96

After a 10 day layoff due to Mother Nature, the St. Paul Wildcats returned to action Tuesday night on the road in Minden.

On the girl's side, Kevin Brandt couldn't ask for a better start from his team as they jumped out to an early 13-7 lead over the home team using a combination of good shot selections and forcing early turnovers. The Whippets didn't waste anytime in the 2nd quarter showing why they are one of the better teams in C1 switching their full court pressure up taking a commanding 31-5 2nd quarter to lead 38-18 at the Halftime break. Minden used that lead to build a 17 point cushion in the 2nd half enroute to a 69-32 victory. The loss drops St. Paul to 3-10 on the year. Gracie Kelley takes Runza MVP with 11 points. The Girls return to action this weekend in Omaha as they take on Malcolm.

The Boys game was a wild affair that saw Minden claw their way to an early 15-13 lead. The Whippets edged St. Paul in the 2nd quarter 11-8 taking a 5 point lead into the half at 26-21 after a late trip to the free throw line. The Cats came alive in the 3rd forcing turnovers by the home team regaining the lead 35-34 after a 14-8 frame. The lead flipped back and forth in the final frame of regulation with the game winner being a set of free throws and ultimately the Wildcats had one final shot before the buzzer but was off the mark as Minden escapes with the 43-41 victory. Shane Kosmicki earns Runza MVP of the game with 11 points in the contest. The Loss drops St. Paul to 4-9 on the season. The Boys will have a week off before returning home to take on Centura on the 23rd.

Our next broadcast will be a GIrls/Boys Doubleheader on January 26th at the Bison Activities Dome against Central City on Country 96.
