Vehicle Driving On Rim Causes Damage To GI Streets, Driver Arrested For DUI Drugs
Early Sunday morning officers with the Grand Island police department observed a vehicle traveling south bound on the 600 block of Elm Street throwing sparks from the passenger side of the vehicle. Officers observed the vehicle was driving on its rim, causing damage to the concrete on the street and throwing metal debris from the rim of the vehicle.
Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but the vehicle fled. Officers later observed the same vehicle at the intersection of Faidley Avenue and Howard Street. Due to the vehicle not having a rim now, the vehicle came to a complete stop on Faidley Avenue near Sherman Avenue.
The driver, Charles Cloud, exited the vehicle and fled on foot, Cloud pulled away from officers and resisted arrest.
Cloud was taken into custody and determined to be operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
The vehicle had caused damage to the concrete on multiple streets
around Grand Island causing over $5,000 worth of damage.
Cloud was arrested for Flight to Avoid Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing a Police Officer, Criminal Mischief and Driving
Under the Influence of a Drug.
