Grand Island Home Federal downs Hastings 8-2
(Grand Island, NE) - In the final home game of the 2022 summer Grand Island Home Federal made the most of it downing Hastings Five Points Bank by a final score of 8-2 on Tuesday night at Ryder Park. Grand Island who previously lost to Hastings twice this season. 14-3 on May 29th and 9-0 on June 9th. Home Federal would have 8 runs on 4 hits and no errors in the contest. Hastings would plate two runs on five hits and have 2 errors in the game. Grand Island would score five runs in the bottom of the 2nd and then tack on three more in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hastings would have one run in the top of the fifth and another in the top of the seventh inning. EJ Arends, Cole Sweley, Brayden Lee, and Jace Chrisman would each have a hit. The RBI's would come from Hunter Jensen (2), Zenon Sack (1), Ramos (1), and Tyler Douglas (2).
Grand Island would get a superb outing from Cohen Evans on the pitching mound. Evans would toss six innings at 104 total pitches. He was charged with both runs giving up four hits, six walks, and had three strikeouts. The GI defense was solid all night with two double plays. One coming by a catch in first base foul territory by Jake Nesvara and then throwing home to Evans to apply the tag on a Hastings runner coming down the line from third trying to score. Later Home Federal would have a 5-4-3 double play turned by Lee to Sack relayed Nesvara.
Home Federal with the win is now 16-7 on the season. They are now 1-2 vs Hastings this season. Hastings sees their record move to 20-3 on the summer. Hastings is back in action tomorrow night hosting Lexington meanwhile Grand Island will travel to Columbus. The juniors game is at 5:00 pm with the senior's game to follow at 7:30 pm.
