GISH Baseball Falls Short In 15 Inning Game

(Lincoln, NE) - Things would look bleak for the Grand Island baseball team on Saturday afternoon trailing Bellevue East 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth inning with only two at-bats left, but GI would rally scoring four runs to tie the game in the sixth and force extra innings in the district tournament contest. In the end, it wasn't enough as Bellevue East would score a run in the top of the 15th inning to defeat the Islanders by a final score of 5-4.

In that sixth inning GI would get three singles to help score the four runs as a Gage Gannon single would come through to tie the game.

Shortstop Sam Dinkelman went 2-4 on the day with two runs batted in and also had three walks in the contest. Ryan Coslor had seven at-bats in the game coming through with three hits. Ian Arends also had two hits for GI in the game.

On the mound, Grand Island got four innings from starter Dyllan Hinrichs, giving up five hits and four runs. Senior Cohen Nelson pitched eight and a third innings of relief. Nelson gave up four hits, no runs, and had 11 strikeouts. Gabe Ruiz took the loss giving up two hits and one run.

The Islander's season comes to an end with a record of 15-9.
