GIFD Welcomes New Recruits

Grand Island Fire Truck 1

Grand Island, Neb.— The Grand Island Fire Department’s three newest recruits will be completing their last day of fire academy training on Friday, January 12. To celebrate this milestone as well as to cap off 8 weeks of intense physical and mental training, the recruits will conduct a “ruck” or march in full firefighter turnout gear from fire station #1 (409 East Fonner Park Road) to city hall (100 East 1st Street).

The recruits will leave fire station #1 at 9 a.m. and have an anticipated arrival at city hall around 9:30 a.m. The recruits’ route will be west on Fonner Park Road and north on Pine Street to city hall.

Immediately following the recruits’ arrival at city hall, there will be a brief reception in City Council chambers.

The names of the recruits are:
• Firefighter/EMT Kelvin Kreitman
• Firefighter/EMT Daniel (Danny) Trevino
• Firefighter/EMT Isaiah Hawley

Once the recruits finish the initial fire academy training on Friday, they will continue on-the-job training for another 4 months as a member of a fire engine and ambulance crew.
