GICC Girls Basketball Headed To State

(Grand Island, NE) - The Grand Island Central Catholic girls basketball team will be making its 11th trip to the state tournament in school history next week after a 46-24 win over West Point-Beemer on Friday night. The Crusaders and Cadets went back in forth in the first eight minutes with GICC holding a 12-10 lead. The Crusaders would build a 22-12 halftime lead after a 10-2 2nd quarter where GICC would get two three-pointers in the period one each from Avery O'Boyle and Anna Tibbets. In the 2nd quarter also foul trouble would hit the Crusaders as Carolyn Maser would pick up her third causing the Crusaders to hit the bench which often doesn't happen for the GICC but Head Coach Kevin Mayfield would look to Jordan Stegman who would come into the game and play the rest of the 2nd quarter.

In the third quarter, GICC would continue to run away with the contest outscoring the Cadets 15-8 to lead 37-20 at the end of the third. GICC would have a 9-4 fourth quarter to secure the win. West Point-Beemer with the loss ends their season at 13-11. GICC is now 23-2 and will now await the official word from the NSAA on who they will face next week in the Class C1 girl's state high school basketball tournament.
