Central Catholic Boys Finish Regular Season With 51-33 Win At St Paul

(St Paul, NE) - The Grand Island Central Catholic boys basketball team made a short road trip north on Friday night to close out the regular season picking up a 51-33 win against St Paul. The Crusaders got off to a great start in the game leading 11-0 before St Paul would hit their first basket of the game at the 2:32 mark of the 1st quarter. GICC would lead at the end of the first quarter 19-4. St Paul would outscore GICC 9-8 in the second quarter with GICC leading 27-13 at the half. GICC would hold St Paul senior Sam Wells, who averages 17 points per game, to 13 points in the game but would be scoreless in the contest until the 2:58 mark of the 3rd quarter. GICC would lead 42-33 at the end of the third quarter. The closest St Paul would get in the contest was 44-33 in the fourth quarter but the Crusaders would close out the game on a 7-0 run. 

St Paul with the loss is now 7-14 and will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 19th traveling to Doniphan-Trumbull to face Centura in the C1-9 sub-district tournament. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm. Listen live Monday night on 96.5 FM & krgi.com. 

GICC boys have now won six in a row and close out the regular season with a record of 11-10. The Crusaders will host the C2-10 sub-district tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 20th as the Crusaders will take on Arcadia Loup City at 6:00 pm on KRGI 1430 AM/105.5 FM & krgi.com. The other semi-final at 7:30 pm will feature Hastings St Cecilia vs Ravenna.
