Cats handle Rebels

After a tough Tuesday in Hastings at Adams Central, The St. Paul Wildcat Basketball teams rebounded with a Varsity sweep of Arcadia-Loup City in Loup City Thursday.

On the girls side of things St. Paul got off to a quick start with an early 19-12 with Charlee Wegner and Emma Elstermeier combining for 16 points in the first frame. The Cats would outscore 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 33-17 lead into the Halftime break. St. Paul outscored the Rebels 17-15 in the second half enroute to the 50-32 victory for their 2nd win of the young season.

St. Paul improves to 2-3 on the year. Charlee Wegner finished the contest as our Runza MVP of the contest with 14 points.

In the boys contest, The Rebels and Cats had trouble getting things going offensively as the score was tied at 5 at the end of the first. St. Paul took a 1 point lead at the Half with a score of 11-10. The Cats held the Rebels to only Free throws in the contest before Arcadia-Loup City got their first field goal with 1:02 to go in the second quarter. The second half saw the Cats offense spring to life outscoring their opponents 26-17 on their way to 37-27 victory behind 10 points from Senior Chris Thomas in the final 2 quarters.

Thomas earned our Runza MVP of the game honors.

The Cats are back in action Saturday vs. Broken Bow at Home. Our next coverage will take place next Thursday as St. Paul heads to Albion to take on Boone Central.
